In 2018, Kevin Durant made his first visit to the Philippines — one of the most basketball-obsessed nations in the world. To mark the occasion, Nike commissioned a series of Filipino artists through Purveyr, the Philippines' leading streetwear and culture publication, to create original works celebrating the tour.

The initial brief called for an illustration built around Durant's most iconic shoe models. On reviewing the supplied assets, it became clear the source material wasn't viable for the scale required — a large-format printed canvas intended for display at the tour. Rather than scale down the ambition, the concept was reconsidered entirely.

The pivot produced something far more personal. The final illustration became a visual biography — tracing the arc of Durant's life from his upbringing and formative years, through the discipline and solitude of his training regimen, to his relationship with his grandmother, one of the most documented and defining influences on his character. The narrative culminated in a showcase of his newest Nike signature model, anchoring the personal story back to the cultural moment of the tour itself.

The finished piece was displayed on screen and as a physical canvas at the Philippine tour events. It was signed by Kevin Durant himself — making it one of the more singular artefacts to come out of the collaboration.
